INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR MANNING OPERATORS |
Hardware:
C8-TTU : the (smaller) modules with one thick tail (DIN-8 plug) and one thin tail (DIN-5 plug).
C-TTU : the (larger) modules with two thin tails (DIN-5 plugs) and a 12V power tail.
Link-Tail : the tail (DIN-5 plug) which emerges close by the CAIRO (DIN-7) socket.
Rig-Tail : the tail which emerges at the opposite side; the thick (DIN-8 plug) tail of a C8-TTU.
Configurations:
£ For Cross-Band Relay (XR), single vehicle (V1) with two rigs, follow £ instructions only £
@ For Cross-Band Relay (XR), two vehicles (V2), one rig in each, follow @ instructions only @
% For In-Band Relay (IR), two separate rigs in each vehicle, follow % instructions only %
$ For In-Band (IR) 'half' Relay with a Dual-Band rig, follow $ instructions only $

Identify which rig is to be the Receiver of your 'half' of the Relay; the Rx-Rig | |||

Select a TTU, either C or C-8 to suit your rig's interface, and plug in Rig-Tail |

(C-TTU only) Tune rig (Rx) to a clear frequency, near designated operations frequency |

(C-TTU only) Turn the rig's Volume and Squelch controls to minimum settings (LED ON) |

(C-TTU only) Slowly increase the rig's Volume control until the LED extinguishes |

Re-tune rig (Rx) to designated operations frequency (and lock VFO if possible) |

Identify the transceiver which is to be your Tx-Rig of the 'half' Relay | |||

Leave this rig connected to your existing mobile aerial, at this stage | |||

Identify your 2m rig and set it to low Tx power | |||

Plug in a TTU of appropriate kind (C or C-8) and repeat £-procedures for this rig | |||

Tune Tx-Rig (Tx section) to designated operations frequency (and lock VFO if possible) | ||

If Tx-Rig is Relay Output set to high Tx power, else if Link output, set to low Tx power | ||

Plug TTU Link-Tail directly into the TTU DIN socket - a self-loop connection | |||

Plug TTU Link-Tail into Tx-Rig's CAIRO adaptor | |||

Plug each TTU Link-Tail into other TTU DIN socket - a cross-coupling - Rig to 'Duplex' | |||

Ensure that Rig(s) is well ventilated; Tx-Rigs may be subject to a high duty cycle |

Link-Tail to the DIN socket of your fellow operator's
TTU, and his Link-Tail to your TTU socket - a cross-coupling |

(C-TTU) If through-audio is 'harsh' reduce Rx volume slightly, if 'thin' raise it slightly |

Agree an 'engineering' frequency, in same band as the link frequency, NOT the Relay band | ||

Drive vehicles to separation parking : 1 mile for 2m ; 1/3rd mile for 70cms | ||

Advise Net Control or outstations that the Relay is operational |

(C8-TTU) Plug CAIRO dual-ear headset into TTU DIN socket, for monitoring listening | |||

Monitor and maintain Relay service, erecting portable mast and aerial(s) if necessary |

Run vehicle engine, from time to time, to maintain battery charge |
